LEGION NEWS

COMMANDER’S CORNER

Dear Fellow Veterans.

With the start of July we begin a new fiscal year for membership. We have experienced a decline in our finances for the third year in a row. In May our financial reserves were $55,000 less than they were twelve months earlier. As your officers we are paying close attention to our expenditures and we are working at ways to increase income. The process is not easy to turn around. We are pressing on with hope for the days ahead. Jan marked the 90th year anniversary for Leon Burson Post 395. I am confident there will be 90 more years of service to the veteran and the community. Thank you for your continued membership and contribution to the ongoing services of Leon Burson Post 395.

Memorial day was indeed a very good day as we paid tribute to our deceased comrades. The attendance was an increase from last year at both Veterans Walk Memorial Park and at Little Rock Township Cemetery.

Aug 1, 2010 will be installation of officers for the coming year. Please join us for that special event. I will be passing the gavel to Art McGava as your new commander. Dave Hulne will become Sr. Vice Commander, Bob Whitmer 2nd Vice Commander, Jerry Johnson Sgt at Arms and I will become Financial Officer. Installation of officers will be at 3:00pm with dinner served following. Please RSVP to the Post and give your name and number attending for the meal preparations. 630 553-8313.

This will be my final words to you as your Commander and I thank you for your support and the opportunity to serve during the last two years. During my tenure as Commander we have made some difficult decision but I believe they were for the good of the future of the Post. The future looks bright as the incoming officers are dedicated and committed to serving you and the community.

Cordially ,

Art Killey, Commander

Quiz question answer: Leon Burson Post 395 was charted Jan 2, 1920. The first commander was Glen H. Davies to start the year. Comrade Davies moved during the year and Dr. Arthur Lord completed his term.
